family tree

Let us preserve your family history, your story, on video for your family to retain forever.

Makes a loving, personal gift that generations will cherish. We all want to be remembered!
Record your own story, or gift a session to your parents; we're here to help keep your oral histories from being lost.

How It Works

Recording your oral history is an enjoyable and deeply moving experience. Oral history stems from the tradition of passing wisdom and traditions from one generation to the next. We come to you – a location of your choice, and guide you in recollecting the moments of your life that are important to you. The tone is conversational, respectful and warm. This professional video recording session can be of one person, a couple, or include family support.

• A typical session lasts 2 to 4 hours with breaks
• Professional quality HD video
• You may choose delivery of a physical file, or web hosting of your video.
• Photographs can also be included with an upgraded package
• We are video professionals, and we specialize in interviews
• We are fully vaccinated and boosted. We follow Covid safety protocols
• Currently, we are working in the greater Seattle area
• Please book early; sessions are limited

A more extensive look at oral histories can be found at the Smithsonian website, along with a list of typical questions we might ask.

"Family Bard created an incredibly special oral history of my Father. They spent several hours with our family, talking and pouring over photos. They were able to draw out my dad’s life stories and put them together in a priceless video presentation. My father passed a way less than a year after this was created and I can’t imagine not having this precious piece of history."

Who We Are

My name is Chris Mosio -- I’m a filmmaker and storyteller, as is Laura, my founding partner in Family Bard. Together, we have decades of experience interviewing most every kind of person, from celebrities to someone just like you. We’re based on Mercer Island, and are currently only booking in the Seattle surrounding areas.

My first inclination to create Family Bard stemmed from the desire to record my own mother’s oral history while her memory was still strong. Armed with a video camera and a loving curiosity, we now have an enduring record of her life. Since her passing, this record has become even more precious. I hear so many friends wanting to do the same for their parents, but the time to make a recording seems to always slip away. We’re here to help.

What is a Bard?

A tribal poet-singer skilled in composing and reciting verses on heroes and their deeds.
A declaimer of epic or heroic verse.
One who records the oral histories of others.
